Founder Angie Ibarra is a San Francisco native, born to immigrant parents but raised, along with several siblings, by a single mom. With an intimate understanding of the struggles of life on welfare, she has always held deep compassion for families in her community.

While working professionally in the corporate sector for over 25 years, Angie volunteered her time reaching out to mothers and their children. This work grew her passion to equip others to do the same, to transform the lives of families who live in poverty. Angie has a reputation for “getting the job done,” a strength she brings to her work in Redwood City. Since launching—now ¡Levantar! (foremly Generations United), her work has reached over 1,000 children annually, mobilizing 500 volunteers annually. Angie’s ability to engage with leaders, school administrators, community partners, churches, city officials, and businesspeople has served families increasingly under duress from the threat of displacement.

Quotes from others
Angie and ¡Levantar! are a gift to the Redwood City Community. In missiological terms, you are always looking for that person of peace. Angie is that person and so much more! She was our “superpower” when it came to bridging and ministering to the eastern part of our community. Spending a day with her, in East Redwood City, going door to door delivering food, I came to know Jesus is a way my decades of pastoring and graduate theological education could have never taught me! Her personal knowledge of the people, faith, bold and humble presence combined to make that portion of our city look more like Heaven!
